TCS has developed the radio and NSA/SA core based on O-RAN technology, which the company will make available for commercial use from January 2022 and Airtel will release its 5G network using this technology.
Announcing on Monday, Airtel and the Tata Group said that the two companies will jointly develop a 5G network solution for India indigenously, which means Airtel in India is relying on Made in India 5G technology. Let us tell you that most of the telecom companies establish their network through the technologies of other hardware and technology companies. Like Jio has joined hands with Samsung, Ericsson and Nokia for its 5G trial. However, Jio has also talked about bringing its own technology. At the same time, it appears that Airtel wants to keep its 5G network completely indigenous. The Tata Group has developed the radio and NSA/SA core based on O-RAN technology. This technology will be available for commercial use from January 2022.
Airtel and Tata Group / TCS have joined hands to develop 5G technology in India. Airtel has announced this partnership through its Twitter account. TCS has developed the radio and NSA/SA core based on O-RAN technology, which the company will make available for commercial use from January 2022 and will release its 5G network using this technology. As is done with most network technology, the new technology will first be run as a pilot project. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) helps in bringing end-to-end solutions for both 3GPP and O-RAN standards.
Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO, Bharati Airtel for India and South Asia, said in a press statement, “We are delighted to partner with the Tata Group to make India a global hub for 5G and related technologies. With its world-class technology ecosystem, India is well placed for the world to create state-of-the-art solutions and applications. This will go a long way in helping India become an innovation and manufacturing destination.”
Last week, Bharti Airtel started the process of 5G trial network in Gurugram. The maximum speed of Airtel’s 5G network is 1Gbps. The site, which is currently undergoing trials, is operating on the 3500MHz band. Earlier this year, Airtel demonstrated 5G using liberalized spectrum in the 1800MHz band. 5G network is currently live in the cyber hub of Gurugram. However, the company has started this testing with the partnership of Ericsson.
As of now, Airtel customers will not be able to experience 5G network during the trial, even if they have a 5G enabled smartphone, as the government has not yet allowed it to be tested with customers.
